Getting to work early is a common virtue of successful people. Generally people are not afraid of work. They’d put in 12 to 14 hours and work Saturdays, sometimes Sundays. They clock over 60 hours a week. Some believe they do their best work after midnight.
But the family does not like it. You probably do not like it either. But the really frustrating thing is that nobody or very few at work seemed to notice all the extra time you are putting in. They only see that you came last or even late to work.
If working long hours isn’t a virtue, what is? Getting to work first does the trick!
There is something about getting in earlier that seems wiser, nobler and smarter. Getting to work earlier says something about being energetic, organized and in control. Staying late leaves the opposite impression: You are diligent but disorganized, earnest but erratic, hardworking but a drudge. People who arrive at work late give the impression they don’t like their jobs and by staying late, you are sending a signal that you can’t keep up or your personal life is poor.
Do you struggle to get up early? Then set your alarm clock a minute earlier each day. A single minute would feel like nothing, but in the course of two months, you get up an hour earlier.
Taking that path can really make a big difference in your life. There are several studies showing that successful entrepreneurs and most CEOs typically get to work at least an hour before their employees. Most of the wealthiest people do it, too!
My advice: Start tomorrow!
