Alicia Munnell is an economist who spent 20 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston where she researched wealth, savings, and retirement among American workers. She was a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and now teaches at Boston College.
She sounded the alarm early that Americans weren’t saving enough for retirement and has pushed for automatic saving plans.
The lesson from Munnell: Most investors have no clue how much they should save or spend. Run your retirement numbers, and then make savings automatic.
